Settings

Every setting in Cineon — interface, rendering, integrations, subscription, and affiliate.

Open Settings from the top-right ··· menu in the Studio. The dialog has five sections accessible from the sidebar.

Features

Rendering optimizations and automatic behaviors.

Auto FSR on large images

When enabled, Cineon automatically activates FSR (see FSR section below) whenever the loaded image exceeds 2K resolution. Keeps the pipeline responsive on high-resolution files without any manual intervention.

Display color space

Controls the output color space of the canvas element itself.

OptionDescription
sRGBStandard — correct on all monitors
Display P3Wider gamut on modern displays (iPhone, Apple displays, DCI monitors) — sRGB content is remapped automatically

Use Display P3 if your monitor supports it for more accurate representation of wide-gamut grades.

Draft preview scale

Renders a downscaled version of the image while you drag sliders, then snaps to full resolution on release. Keeps parameter adjustments smooth on large images.

OptionScale
0.50xRenders at half resolution during adjustment
0.75xRenders at 75% during adjustment
OffAlways renders at full resolution

Auto-save interval

Automatically saves the open .cine project file at the chosen interval. Requires a project to have been saved at least once manually first.

OptionInterval
30sEvery 30 seconds
1minEvery minute
5minEvery 5 minutes
OffDisabled

FSR — AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution

FSR lives in the Properties panel (right side of the Studio), not in Settings — but it's the most important rendering feature in Cineon, so it gets its own section here.

What FSR does

FSR 1.0 is AMD's spatial upscaling algorithm, implemented in Cineon as a two-pass WebGL2 pipeline:

  1. EASU (Edge-Adaptive Spatial Upscaling) — upscales the image using a 12-tap Lanczos-like filter that detects edge direction and adapts the kernel accordingly. Produces significantly sharper upscales than bilinear or bicubic.
  2. RCAS (Robust Contrast-Adaptive Sharpening) — a second pass that applies contrast-adaptive sharpening to the upscaled result, recovering perceived detail lost during the scale.

The net effect: Cineon renders the pipeline at a fraction of the native resolution, then FSR reconstructs a sharp full-resolution output. This dramatically reduces GPU memory bandwidth and compute time — letting the full effect stack run smoothly on large images or less powerful hardware.

Quality presets

PresetInternal scaleSharpness
Ultra Quality1.3×0.2
Quality1.5×0.4
Balanced1.7×0.6
Performance2.0×0.8
Extreme3.0×1.0

The scale is how much smaller the internal render target is compared to the display. At 1.5× (Quality), Cineon renders the pipeline at ≈44% of the pixels and FSR reconstructs the rest. At 2.0× (Performance), it renders at 25% of pixels.

Recommended: start with Quality for most images. Use Ultra Quality for final preview before export. Use Performance on very large images (20MP+) or if you notice slider lag.

RCAS Sharpness

Controls the strength of the RCAS sharpening pass (0–100). Higher values produce crisper edges but can introduce ringing on very fine textures. Default varies by preset — leave it at the preset default unless you notice over-sharpening.

Grain Protection (RCAS Denoise)

Prevents the RCAS pass from amplifying film grain. Without this, RCAS can interpret grain texture as signal and sharpen it, turning natural grain into harsh noise. With Grain Protection on, the denoising is applied before RCAS to preserve the organic grain character.

If you're using Film Grain in your effect chain, keep Grain Protection above 30.

When to use FSR

  • Large images (above 12–16MP) — prevents pipeline stalls during slider adjustments
  • Complex chains — many stacked effects, especially Film Grain + Halation + Bloom
  • Export — FSR applies only to the canvas preview. Exports always render at full native resolution with the full pipeline — FSR does not affect the exported file.

Interface

Enable Surfaces

Toggles Cineon's layered elevation system — a subtle depth effect on UI panels using translucent surfaces and borders. Disable it for a flatter appearance or if you prefer less visual complexity.

This setting is marked Beta — there may be edge cases where surfaces render unexpectedly on certain system themes.

Integrations

Pinterest

Connect your Pinterest account to publish graded images as Pins directly from the Studio without leaving Cineon.

Once connected, an Export to Pinterest option appears in the canvas export menu. You can choose a board, add a title and description, and publish in one step.

To connect: click Connect Pinterest — you'll be redirected to Pinterest's OAuth flow and returned to the Studio automatically.

Subscription

Shows your current plan (Free, Pro Monthly, Pro Yearly, or Pro Lifetime) and provides access to the Stripe billing portal for managing payment methods, invoices, and cancellation.

Click Manage Subscription to open the Stripe portal in a new tab.

Affiliate

Available on Pro plans. Gives you a personal referral link and tracks your earnings through Stripe Connect Express.
